Veterinary Surgeon

Job Description

The Role

This is a role for a full-time first opinion Veterinary Surgeon. This constitutes a 4-day working week (35-40 hours) with a 1 in 3 Saturday rota – any Saturdays worked count as 1 working day out of the 4. There are no out of hours duties as a dedicated out of hours service is used. Duties will include consulting (15-minute consultations), with an equally shared operating rota and dedicated time for client calls. Saturdays are sole-charge but at all other times this Veterinary Surgeon will be part of a 3-person first opinion team. From February 2021 we also have a maternity cover position available, for those looking something temporary.

About Us

Our practice is located in the beautiful East Neuk of Fife, a stone's throw from St. Andrews and within easy visiting distance of both Edinburgh and Glasgow. The area affords an excellent quality of life, benefiting from beautiful beaches and charming coastal villages, with huge potential for watersports, cycling and walking. The local schools are excellent. The practice benefits from being purpose-built, affording a very pleasant working environment with well-maintained facilities. We have well-equipped, spacious operating theatres and up to date imaging equipment, including dental radiography. We also have a sister referral orthopaedic practice on-site, with the opportunity to work closely with the orthopaedic vets on internally referred/orthopaedic patients. We are a supportive and friendly team of experienced vets, nurses and exceptional support staff, most of whom have been with the practice many years. We are looking forward to welcoming aboard an additional vet for our growing and thriving first opinion practice.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for a confident and friendly fully qualified veterinary surgeon with excellent communication skills who enjoys dealing with clients and patients alike. Surgical competency in routine first opinion soft tissue surgery is required, as well as the confidence to make decisions when working independently, as there will be some sole-charge work required for the role. Certificate holders or those working towards one would be desirable; CPD is well-funded and encouraged.

As a Disability Confident Employer we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long term health conditions, and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.
