Veterinary Technician – Emergency / Critical Care (ECC)

Nashville Veterinary Specialists + Animal Emergency (NVS) is seeking adaptable, hard-working, and highly motivated Licensed Veterinary Technicians for our fast-paced and growing Emergency/Critical Care Team!

NVS is a veterinary specialty hospital and 24/7 emergency hospital. Our primary focus is to honor the human-animal bond in all we do, focusing on patient care, client experience, the health of our team. We are located in a recently expanded 24,000 square foot hospital with digital radiography, computed tomography (CT), on-site magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, endoscopy, access to an on- site commercial laboratory, and more.

Requirements:
• Must have LVMT CVT, LVT, or RVT licensure and at least 1+ years of veterinary hospital experience
• Have a reasonably in-depth understanding of veterinary medicine and basic disease processes
• Have broad technical abilities (Phlebotomy, catheterization, patient restraint, radiographs, in-house lab, pharmacology, medication/fluid/oxygen administration, etc.)

Responsibilities:
• Perform TPR’s on ECC patient’s daily, round results to Criticalist
• Write/highlight treatment sheets
• Perform/Assist with Procedures/Diagnostics for ECC patients
• Blood work, radiographs, ECGs, fill out ultrasound requests
• Transcribe results in MRE and on treatment sheet (PCV/TS, BPs, BGs, etc.)
• Run sedation/anesthesia for E/CC patients – wound management, bandage changes, etc.
• Sole technician for any ventilator/table patients with hourly/Q 30-minute monitoring/recording
• Set up for common procedures when necessary – thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis, abdominocentesis, chest tube placement, etc.
• Place nasogastric tubes, central lines, arterial catheters
• Assist ICU with CRITICAL ECC patients, as directed by Criticalist (not responsible for primary care unless directed)
• Fill ECC patients meds
• Start/prepare/help with finalization of Discharge Instructions as directed by Criticalist
• Discharge ECC patients as needed/directed
• Client communications (updates, inquiry calls, discharges, etc)
• Take RDVM or transfer calls for Criticalist when not available
• Serve as internal liaison for CSR’s, other departments, consults, etc.
• Communicate with Med Records Coordinators about discharges, and pertinent record information
