The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our team at Churchfield Vets. The role would suit an organised, self-motivated progressive team player preferably with post graduate mixed practice experience. The remit of the equine department is general equine practice, both ambulatory and clinic-based which includes routine work as well as lameness investigations, internal medicine, elective surgery, dentistry and stud work, and is a BEVA Approved AI Centre for both chilled and frozen semen. The remit of the small animal department is general first opinion small animal practice working up cases to a high level in orthopaedic, soft tissue and dental surgery and internal medicine investigations and treatment plans.
• 4.5-day week
• 1:4 rota on call nights and weekends for equine cases only with one extra-long weekend free every fourth week
• 1:5 Sunday only with a day off the following week.
About Us
We are an equine and small animal practice in South Yorkshire with good access to motorways and the Peak District. Our equine centre is situated between Sheffield, Doncaster, Huddersfield and the Pennines, the area boasts an abundance of leisure activities. Our team includes two equine only vets and one mixed equine/small animal vet and three equine grooms. Additional support staff are based at our main small animal surgery in Barnsley, office and account assistants, receptionists and practice manager. Our small animal clinic is well equipped with digital radiography, colour doppler ultrasound, endoscopy, dentistry facilities and in-house laboratory. The small animal team includes three full time small animal vets, one part time small animal vet, four veterinary nurses, and one year two student veterinary nurse as we are a training centre, and two animal nursing assistants. We also have a small animal branch surgery in the village of Skelmanthorpe which is a 25-minute drive from Barnsley.
Equine equipment includes portable DR and static CR X-ray units, ultrasound scanners, endoscopes, motorised dental equipment, ESWT (Shockwave) and has organised days for gastroscopy and sarcoid laser surgery. We have an exceptional client care policy, friendly staff and veterinary support. We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly, organised and self-motivated team player preferably with post graduate mixed practice experience. Good communication skills are essential. Abilities welcomed and encouraged in all areas of first opinion equine and small animal practice. There is the ability to follow-up ambulatory cases at our equine centre. We would encourage development of your own ambitious interests.
