About us:

The Southpaws hospital is based in Moorabbin, just 12 km from Melbourne CBD, and offering great lifestyle options. Southpaws has a world renown reputation for excellence and patient care.  We regularly publish and present our latest work to national and international conferences and at events scheduled for the veterinary community.  Due to our continued growth we expanded our purpose-built facilities in 2018.

Southpaws boasts one of only two veterinary radiation therapy units in Australia and was the first deep-therapy radiation unit for dogs and cats in Australia. We have full in-house laboratory facilities, comprehensive diagnostic imaging including ultrasound, digital X-ray, a 16 Slice Toshiba CT Aquilion and we have access to a 1.5 Tesla MRI. Our team is vibrant, friendly and passionate about the services we offer at Southpaws. Our team includes three surgical specialists, a surgical registrar and three residents (one IM), a team of interns, knowledgeable nurses and support staff.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking expressions of interest from an experienced Internist who is looking for an adventure and wants to lead our medicine team (Resident, Senior Medicine Nurse, Intern and a ECC Veterinarian). You will also be working closely with three experienced board-certified surgeons to further develop the capability of our multidisciplinary specialist referral centre.

In this role, you will provide a specialist referral internal medicine service as well as supporting our specialist surgical team and consulting to our extensive general practice network across Victoria and Australia. We are not a primary access Emergency centre and so we get to focused on referred patient care. We strive to achieve clinical excellence within a working environment that promotes and encourages collegiality and communication. While this is a permanent opportunity for employment, we are open to conversations about short or long-term contracts.

About you:

To be successful in this role, it is important that you are a qualified companion animal internal medicine specialist. It is important that you have been accepted by the ACVIM, ECVIM, or a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and that your qualification will be eligible for Specialist Registration with the Australian Veterinary Board Council.
