KENNEL AND ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
CORE JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must be extremely flexible with scheduling, scheduling needs to be determined by scheduling supervisor
Provide EXCELLENT customer service
Educate clients (hospital policies, routine medical problems & procedures, pet health recommendation, products and services)
Ensure all tasks are completed prior to end of shift
Adhere to OSHA regulations
Accurate data entry
Answer / dial telephones
Maintain general cleanliness of hospital
Assist in other areas of hospital when needed
Assist with training new hires
CORE PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Sit, stand, walk, reach, lift
Lift up to 50 pounds of weight
Walk on stairs
Carry food or patients
Physically restrain animals in a safe manner
Walk &/or restrain dogs on leash
Fine motor skills to manipulate syringes, blood tubes, keyboarding, etc
QUALIFICATIONS:
A team player who enjoys interaction with both people and pets.
A friendly, caring and compassionate individual with great customer service skills who will
provide the best possible care to pets and the owners who bring them to our facility. Individual must be very flexible with scheduling, understanding schedule may change on a weekly basis. Some nights, Holidays, and weekends are required.
KENNEL
PRIMARY KENNEL / LVT ASSISTANT DUTIES :
LVT ASSISTANT :
Excellent customer service
When in kennel, take direction from LVT(s) on duty
Humanely and effectively restrain pets for treatments and/or LVT appointments
Minor LVT help– Cut surgical drapes, Make saline flushes, Clean surgical suite and treatment area (as instructed by LVT), Assist with radiographs
KENNEL ATTENDANT :
Provide excellent patient care
Walk, feed, and water animals as per instructions maintaining logs
Alert LVT or DVM to possible health problems of patients (vomiting, diarrhea, not eating etc)
Using the proper disinfecting techniques to clean cages (top, sides, bottom and door), run drains and grates
Bathe and groom animals as directed with medicated shampoo
Laundry
Stocking- Maintain supplies of towels and stock all necessary supplies for kennel use, stock both bathrooms with toilet paper and paper towels
Sweep and mop all floors, both sets of stairs and basement
Clean litter boxes and Scoop poop in dog walking areas
Pick up litter around hospital (sidewalks and parking lot)
Prepare deceased patients to be taken home with owners or cremated and take paw prints
Maintain cleanliness of kennel, isolation, basement, and dog walking areas.
Unpacking and putting away kennel supply orders
Empty trash in treatment area as needed. Gather and empty trash, fold and bundle cardboard for recycling
Put up and take down flag: proper handling and folding technique

EXAM ROOM ASSISTANT
PRIMARY ASSISTANT DUTIES AT VCAH AND HARMONY PET WELLNESS CENTER :
Excellent customer service
Work as a team with other assistants to ensure all tasks get completed in a timely manner
Greet clients and pets, introduce yourself and escort into the exam room
Determine the reason for visit, take history and weight and record in electronic medical record
Set out supplies needed for the visit (vaccines, IVs, bandages, blood/urine tubes etc)
Physically restrain patient for exam. Collect specimens (urine, stool) as per doctor
Enter visit charges into the computer
Monitor waiting room and client wait times (inform doctor of what is happening in waiting area)
Clean exam room(s) and hands between appointments and at the end of the shift
Prepare blood, urine, feces, cultures, biopsy samples for the outside lab
Perform In-House bloodwork and run machines (CBC, chemistry, PCV, Snap tests, coagulation, etc)
Call clients if requested by doctor
In the Pharmacy (occasional need):
Account for all drugs/supplies leaving the pharmacy
Accurately set up medications as per Doctor
Clean at end of shift
Bring medications to Harmony Pet Wellness Center as needed
