Referral Veterinary Anaesthetist (Maternity Cover)

Job Description

About Us

Our team consists of three Diplomates (two ECVAA and one ACVAA), one residency-trained fellow and two anaesthesia interns. We are a young team and enjoy working together and encouraging each other to learn. The department is supported by a team of experienced theatre nurses and we also work closely with the nurses from other services, ensuring that all of them have a minimum amount of training in anaesthesia and, most especially, in CPR. We also provide a high standard of care through a great working relationship with the clinicians of all the other departments.

We run weekly anaesthesia tutorials and journal clubs, the hospital has a weekly clinical club on many different subjects, M&M rounds and we offer regular in-house CPD opportunities. We also work closely with the University of Nottingham, welcoming students to rotate through our department every week. However, clinical teaching is voluntary and we are not involved in any of the formal lectures.

The hospital is located at the edge of Derby city centre with good transport links to major cities via road and rail network. Derby train station is a 5 minute stroll from the hospital and it is very easy to walk or cycle down to the city centre. East Midlands Airport and Birmingham International Airport offer convenient access to domestic and international destinations. The beautiful Peak District is just around the corner for outdoor adventures and good local food.

The Role

We are looking for a diploma holder or residency trained anaesthetist to help our team with maternity cover at Pride Veterinary Centre in Derby, UK. This is in addition to the permanent position we have advertised earlier. The maternity cover is for nine months. This can be full time, or four days a week. However, a flexible schedule of your choosing can be discussed. As we are still looking for permanent anaesthetist, the door is open to staying with us long term.

As a clinician, apart from joining in the day to day anaesthesia, you will be assisting other departments with analgesia and critical care and participating in the out of hours rota. We see a wide variety of interesting cases as Pride offers specialist services in internal medicine, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, diagnostic imaging, neurology, ophthalmology, cardiology (interventional), oncology, exotics and dermatology.
