Hospital or Consulting Veterinary Surgeon

Job Description

The Role

We are currently looking for a hospital or Consulting Veterinary Surgeon to join our team at South Lincs Vet Group. This is a full-time role working 42 hours a week split between consulting, operating and hospital care of inpatients and emergency admits. The out of hours rota equates to weekend day shifts every 8 weeks and weekend night shifts every 12 weeks- this evens out at 1 in 5 weekends with time off in the following week. We would also happily welcome part time applications for this role.
There is flexibility in this role to play to the successful candidates’ strengths and interests. We have a strong, multiskilled team of Veterinary Surgeons who all take a share of consulting, operating, work ups, hospital/inpatient care and out of hours work. We have amongst our team some keen surgeons and a busy caseload in all areas, so this position might suit a Veterinary Surgeon looking to further their internal medicine and emergency work by taking on more of hospital day shifts, or someone with an imaging bias who wishes to further their skills in our well-equipped imaging suite. A share of the surgical caseload would still be rota’d. Alternatively, it might be possible to redesign the role for someone looking for a consult only or non-surgical position.

About Us

The practice has a spacious, well equipped hospital and three satellite branches. There is a large and varied case load of both medical and surgical cases, and our vets have clinical freedom. The hospital has recently been extended and is well equipped with top class imaging (digital x-ray, CT scanner, ultrasound, video endoscope including laparoscopic kit), a wide range of surgical and orthopaedic equipment, four sterile theatres, dental x-ray, ECG, tonopen and slit lamp, Class 4 laser, extensive lab, spacious dog and cat kennels and a large isolation area. There are seven consulting rooms. Each branch has biochem, haematology, UA and microscope, a sterile theatre, with imaging available at some.

Our friendly, experienced, and supportive team are committed to offering high standards of clinical care. We have vets who have completed or are studying towards further qualifications in surgery, internal medicine, dermatology, ECC, and ophthalmology. Cases are discussed daily at clinical rounds and support is always available.

The vets are well supported by an experienced and conscientious team of Registered Veterinary Nurses and Student Veterinary Nurses, and excellent support staff. We are a friendly crew and never fail to help newcomers feel at ease.

We are proud of our team and we aim to support them with generous remunerationand support. Postgraduate studies are encouraged and supported.

South Lincs Vet Group is located near Boston, with excellent road links in all directions, and rail links to London and nationwide via Peterborough. The beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds and the Norfolk coast are within easy day trip distance. The skies are huge, the people are friendly, and cost of living is very affordable.
