1 February - 30 November 2020 | Online CPD + 1 x 2-Day Workshop

Event Description

Use the latest information to prolong the quality of life of canine and feline patients with cancer.

Between 40 and 50 percent of dogs and cats will either die of cancer or have cancer found incidentally on post mortem. Yet, unlike heart disease, chronic renal insufficiency and arthritis, cancer is potentially curable. Advances in chemotherapy have increased options for palliative care, so that animals can have a prolonged life rather than a prolonged death. This course provides an overview of oncogenesis and metastasis, common chemotherapeutics, other therapies including surgery and radiation, paraneoplastic syndromes, lymphoma, sarcomas, round cell tumours and the complete approach to the cancer patient.

Learning Outcomes By successfully completing this course, you will:
  1. Develop the skills to obtain an appropriate tissue diagnosis of cancer without compromising the patient
  2. Develop the skills to stage patients with neoplastic disease using appropriate diagnostic modalities
  3. Utilise chemotherapeutic agents within a treatment plan
  4. Administer cytotoxic agents safely
  5. Develop a medical treatment plan for patients suffering from common neoplastic disease
